I've been reading mostly non-fiction, but got back to fiction tonight. I skipped The Poet as I couldn't get into it and read the next story, The Human Claim instead. I love these type of stories that Smith writes, the ones that aren't wholly fictional, but largely based on things that have happened to her personally. She sees correlation between things that many wouldn't and always inserts a great level of humanity into them. I really enjoyed this story and think I'll read several tomorrow. We're experiencing a lot of disruption here in Northern Ireland due to snow (the country has ground to a halt!), so I'll use the opportunity to read more.
