Hi everyone,

I thought a blog would be a great way to exchange book recommendations as I love reading and writing reviews. I've also started putting pen to paper, and have recently completed a creative writing course. Maybe you'll be reading one of my books down the line!?

If you want to share about what you're reading, or anything at all for that matter, let loose and go for it!

Miracle Creek by Angie Kim

Miracle Creek - Angie Kim

I read Miracle Creek at the beginning of the year, so my grasp of the details are a little hazy, but I’ll do my best.

Miracle Creek follows a family (forgotten their names!) who moved from Korea to North America in the hopes of a better life for their daughter. After accruing enough money, they open a kind of suite that provides pure oxygen for the participants. This can be used to help those who are on the spectrum and even those with fertility problems.

When the novel opens we’re in a courtroom with one of the witnesses to an explosion that happened at the container. Something went wrong when the participants were taking part in one of their daily dives and the container exploded and a young boy died.

From here we work in alternating chapters, sometimes from the Korean mother’s perspective, sometimes from her daughters and sometimes from witnesses.

As much as this is a courtroom drama, it’s also a family one. There were pretty big problems amidst the characters and this was explored very well. The frustration of moving to a new country was handled extremely well as were the sometimes fraying relationships.

While I really enjoyed this at times tense novel, there were others where I got a little confused as the voices of the characters were similar and there were quite a few of them.

The pieces of the puzzle were revealed gradually, leading to a shocking crescendo. I was pretty sure who was to blame for the explosion and while I was right, I didn’t get all the details.

It was very good and kept my interest throughout and was a great example of a courtroom/family drama.
